My name is Steven Darby. Only my relatives call me “Steven.” Everyone else calls me “Darby.” I introduce myself as “Darby,” because “Steven” tends to degenerate into “Steve,” or “Steve-o,” which are names better suited to someone other than myself. You can call me Darby, unless, of course, we are related.

I try to focus on print work, but I am interested in designing for all sorts of media and applications. I know a little about a lot of things, and a lot about a few things. I think that is part of being a good designer. I do take my work very seriously, but I try my best not to be arrogant; a character trait which plagues my field.

I have learned that sometimes the most creative ideas will not work for the client or the audience, and I work to reconcile the two. I am not an artist. I am a designer. That being said, my main goal for all of my work is for it to be effective and relevant.

I try not to ever borrow money, but it'll happen sometimes. I always wear a belt, and I almost always wear hats. I do not tuck my shirt in. If I wanted to do that, I would be a salesman. I drive a 67 VW Beetle, or I ride a bike. Sometimes I walk. I also enjoy riding the bus. I am an elitist snob when it comes to music, and if we spend any time together, you’ll know quickly. Sorry. I have a cell phone, but I hate using it, and I'd usually rather talk in person. I also don't like social networking sites. I still use a few, but I am ashamed. I think manners are very important. I think a person should try to be as useful as possible.

I smoke cigarettes. I’ve thought about quitting. I drink Dr. Pepper. Mr. Pibb is not even close. Food servers should not ask people, “Is Mr. Pibb okay?” Mr. Pibb is only interchangeable with Dr. Pepper for folks who drink neither.
